Drawing Sensing Sighting Sounding
The paper Piercing the Darkness: Drawing Sensing Sighting Sounding was delivered at the 2015 American Association of Geographers conference , Chicago 21–30 April 2015.
The paper was delivered in the stream Interrogating The Limits of (Im)Perceptibility.
Our co authored paper looks at strategies used in drawing to capture information at the edge of or beyond the limits of vision. We approach the subject from our perspective as artists who use drawing as an investigative tool in situations where our subject is elusive and senses are both compromised and heightened. Drawing on contemporary and historical examples we will explore how artists have challenged their graphic competencies, where traditional methods help, and where they break down.
